Kite Repairs
Here at Surface Tension we believe in offering the full service
We sell kites, we fly them and very occasionally we break them! Well naturally as you would expect we also repair them.
In fact we deal with hundreds of repairs every year, from minor tears in the sail cloth to major blow-outs and much worse.
Jen is our trusted friend and ‘Ace’ seamstress who we have been working with for over six years now.
Jen has repaired nearly every type of foil kite you can think of and also made her own kites for Kayaking expeditions used by her husband.
At Surface Tension we also believe in quality which is why we stick with the products that we know we can trust. Our approach to repairs is similar and when you send us a kite for repair it is inspected and logged on arrival, instructions passed to our seamstress and then final inspection is carried out prior to your kite being returned.
This way we can make sure that our own high standards are maintained and that nothing gets missed.
We endeavour to use the best quality materials available and use genuine spares from your kites manufacturer where ever we can. It s not always possible to match colours of material as ageing and UV degrade pigments in the material. It is also not practical to stock vast quantities of material from every manufacturer.
From our point of view, there are quite a few manufacturers material we would rather not want to use because of the inferior quality!
Therefore we use the best quality material supplied by two of the most respected manufacturers within the industry.
We also have a practical approach to kite repairs, that being the most economical repair that does not affect the integrity or performance of your kite. It is quite often the case that although your 'pristine treasure' has now been rendered Imperfect..! It is not impossible to restore it to its 'As New condition', but the cost of doing so could be uneconomical.
Apart from repairs to kite sails we also carry out service and inspections on all manner of kites including all De-power foils.
Chris has years of experience working with Ozone and lately Peter Lynn in testing products which quite often involves trimming kites and getting prototypes to perform at their best prior to final production. This knowledge and experience is a very valuable asset when applied to repairs or sorting out various problems experienced by flyers when their equipment fails to function properly.
We also tune race kites for pilots needing more exacting standards and performance from their standard factory trim kites. This service can also be applied to any other kite at whatever level, if it is not performing properly then it is pretty likely that Chris will have a fix for it!
For these services we have an hourly rate that won't break the bank! If you think you need this kind of help just drop us an email and we can discuss helping you solve most problems.
